Food Prep Gloves in Use
For the uninitiated , the spec details on a food glove order form can be a bit mystifying.
The following explanations are helpful.
Mil or mm: a mil is a measurement unit to describe thickness.
1 mil is 1/1000 (0.001) of an inch.
Food service gloves come in an array of thicknesses, usually starting at 0.2 mil and upward, depending on the task requirements.
Embossed: An embossed glove has an imprinted texture pattern which can improve both the grip and drape of the material.
Embossed gloves can discourage bacterial growth because their surface more easily releases substrates that bacteria tend to multiply on.
Embossing also reduces the feel of a given mil’s bulk or density, producing a glove that is easier to manipulate.
HDPE: High Density Polyethylene is a linear polymer that is particularly suited to the blow molding process which is used to make hollow plastic parts such as bottles and gloves.
USDA Food Accepted: This designation indicates that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved a material to be safe for food contact and is in compliance with FDA Food Additives Regulations 21CFR, 170-199.
