The Problem With Nitrile Gloves  (Latex-Free Gloves)

Yes, there are problems with nitrile gloves.
Only at GloveNation: we dish the truth about our own products so you can make an informed buying decision.

There are three main issues with nitrile gloves:

1) Nitrile Gloves do not fit as well as latex gloves
Nitrile butadiene rubber is just not as elastic as natural rubber. After you put a nitrile glove on, you may notice that there are a few more wrinkles in the material than you would like. This can be bothersome at first, but honestly, most wearers lose consciousness of the wrinkles shortly after making the switch from latex to nitrile. It can be a problem for critical working environments, such as in medical surgery. Many surgeons have complained enough about this issue that some hospitals and medical universities have switched to neoprene gloves. Neoprene offers a different set of compromises, but does allow a good, close fit without the wrinkles.

2) Nitrile Gloves are not as tear-resistant as latex gloves
While this is true, some people actually prefer nitrile gloves for this reason. When a nitrile glove is punctured, it is much more likely to tear wide open at the point of puncture. This provides awareness to the wearer that the protection offered by the glove has been compromised. A latex glove is far more likely to allow a puncture without tearing and the wearer can continue with compromised protection for hours.

However, for most, this tendency for nitrile gloves to tear easily is a pain. Auto mechanics are a demographic that would prefer nitrile gloves with better tear resistance, as are oil refinery workers and TSA security personnel

3) Nitrile Gloves are more expensive than latex gloves
Nitrile gloves tend to cost a little more than latex. If you have shopped around on the internet a little, you will notice that nitrile gloves can cost twice what latex gloves cost. But here at GloveNation, we have done our best to minimize the price difference between natural latex gloves and nitrile gloves. In fact, at the moment, many of our nitrile products are on sale and there is only a small price differential.
